I moved out of my home on September 26th and headed straight to Boise. The first weekend was spent joining the Boise Bike Project "bike bus" tour to Open Streets festival with my sister and brother-in-law. The next day I felt comfortable to bike with them out to see my grand nieces and nephews play softball. It was so heartwarming to spend the first weekend seeing my sisters, their kids and grandkids.
I jumped right into my first sit on the first day of a new contract gig, which turned out to be not ideal. Gus and Toby were great dogs, but the condo was small and they were in the middle of a remodel -making it even smaller. It was my first real test of remote working without my standing desk setup and external monitor. The dogs, however, were super sweet and well-behaved. Gus is a 6-yr-old Bernadoodle (more Bernese Mountain Dog than doodle), and Toby is a 9-yr-old Goldendoodle. Walks with them were really nice, and they even got along great with my friend Kate's dog, Ember. When it suddenly became fall in the second week of my stay, I had to turn on the heat. The aforementioned remodel meant there were no vents installed and the heat shot out dust and debris, which I think is how I ended up getting the worst cold I'd had since my one and only Covid infection at the end of '23. Being sick in someone else's home, with impatient dogs to be walked, while also navigating a new company, was really hard. I didn't want to infect my family, so despite being surrounded by them, I was isolated. (insert sympathetic tears here)
I started to perk up just as that sit came to an end. My next pup was Kochi, another Goldendoodle who was 8 years old. He was the sweetest boy and his home was amazing. It's one of the tudor-style mansions on Warm Springs Avenue. They had a guest sweet with dedicated office and monitors, making remote work a piece of cake. Kochi was also a great co-worker as well as super fun to run and walk with on the nearby trails. I really enjoyed staying in this home (especially the theatre room!) It way exceeded my expectations for what this experience would bring.
It was at this time I also found out I got the job I really wanted and could get my career back on track after my summer hiatus. Kate and I got a chance to celebrate my job offer at the Renegade rooftop bar.
